Midnight Runners have been crowned Firmballs Falmer league football champions after a gruelling five month campaign.

It was a remarkably close title race, with just two points separating the top three teams going into the final game. However, Midnight held their nerve to prevail 3-1 against SO Legal with Alex Ford bagging himself a hat-trick.

In a season full of highlights, Midnight clawing back a 9-9 draw with Apex Windows in week 12 – scoring four goals in the last three minutes – has to go down as a crucial turning point in the title run-in. The league win adds to the team’s Champions League title earlier in the season.

Tommy Handley, Midnight Runners captain, says: “It’s an extremely proud day. It’s gratifying that team unity has been fundamental to our success rather than a reliance on individuals. This is our fourth season in this league and I’m delighted to finally get my hands on this coveted trophy.

“Big thanks to Sam and the rest of the Firmballs team for putting on a well organised league for local businesses to enjoy.”
