More than half our team are trained journalists…they are therefore best placed to help train the future generation of PR professionals in how to create a pitch with the best chance of placement.

New research has shown that journalists are skeptical that PR professionals read the news. Our Joint MD, Flo Powell, spoke to PR Week in response. Here’s her comment in full:

“I’m extremely saddened by the results of this survey as the relationships between PRs and journalists are vital to both our professions.

“We train our team at Midnight to be obsessed with the news agenda – we have the news playing in the office all day and we read the papers every morning as our first task of the day, hunting for comment opportunities for our clients.

“More than half our team are trained journalists and have therefore been on the other side of the fence, receiving badly written press releases or stories which weren’t tailored to the publication. They are therefore best placed to help train the future generation of PR professionals in how to create a pitch with the best chance of placement.

“Bad writing and lazy pitching has no place in PR. A keen eye on the news agenda, thorough research of target publications and high-quality copywriting are all fundamental to life at Midnight and should be for all agencies…”
